Marion PLTW Students Win Big at OTEA

Marion middle school PLTW students made a powerful showing at the 2007 Ohio Technology Education Association Spring Conference in March.  Over 600 entries were received, representing 19 schools from all around Ohio.  This year, students from River Valley Middle School Technology Student Association and Ridegedale Jr.-Sr. High School PLTW Gateway to Technology students took home several awards.

River Valley students brought home ten award of merit ribbons, two second places, two first places, and one runner up best of show, along with the best of show award.   Mr. Tad Douce, PLTW Gateway instructor from River Valley, was very proud of his students’ work.  “Our students work very hard on these projects and it’s great to show that they are among the best in the state.”

Ridgedale students Patrick Weston, Michael Forry, and Mark Forry earned the Best-of-Show Manufacturing Mass Production Junior High award for their Fischertechnik Manufacturing Model Simulation project, which also won the Junior High Gold Award along with the Judge’s Choice Award at the National Robotics Challenge in early March. Mr. Brad Pottkotter,  technology teacher at Ridgedale, would like to commend his students on their hard work and excellent attitudes.
