Ohio PLTW Affiliate Director Monica Pfarr is Named Outstanding Business Leader
The Dayton Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” competition has named PLTW Ohio’s affiliate director Monica Pfarr as one of Dayton’s outstanding business leaders under the age of 40. The yearly competition seeks to highlight young, up and coming leaders in both business and academia. Monica, who now directs operations for the National Center for Manufacturing Education (NCME), has a strong industry background, having worked as a production superintendent at General Motors for 12 years.
Early in her four year tenure at Sinclair, Monica was instrumental in Sinclair Community College’s being named as Project Lead the Way’s Ohio affiliate, making Sinclair responsible for training PLTW teachers and overseeing PLTW operations for the entire state. As NCME director, she has secured over $2 million in National Science Foundation and other grant monies to improve student engineering programs and grow the number of engineering graduates. She oversees a national clearinghouse for manufacturing resources, fosters partnerships with other colleges and universities, and works with local businesses to help them improve their effectiveness. She also works closely with business, 2 and 4 year colleges and universities, and Project Lead the Way at the national and state levels, to help students transition more smoothly from high school into college and beyond. She chairs several national advisory committees and is a sought-after speaker at national engineering conferences for her educational expertise. She also serves as a mentor and strong role model for young women involved with the Women in Engineering Technologies institute each summer.
Monica holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Ohio State, an MBA from Central Michigan University, and is a graduate of the Executive Development program at Northwestern University.
