Tri-Rivers Career Center competes in TRECA Vex Gateway Robotics Qualifier
The Tri-Rivers Career Center Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering program had 6 teams compete in the recent TRECA Vex Gateway Robotics Qualifier. 23 teams competed from the Central Ohio area in TRECA's Memorial Room. Tri-Rivers PLTW Engineering seniors Cameron Smith of Cardington, Kelsea Sullivan of Elgin, Erin Thompson of North Union finished on the 1st place alliance along with two teams from River Valley high school's PLTW Engineering class. Finishing on the second place alliance were Jacob Nelson of Harding and Andy Cumston of Elgin.
This is the 4th year the Marion has hosted the event. This was far and away our most competitive event yet. PLTW engineering teams from Ridgdale, Harding, North Union, Cardington, Tri-Rivers, and River Valley competed in the event. Students put as many as 100 hours after school into designing, building and programming their robots.
The world championships will be in Anaheim, California. Marion Technical College will be hosting the next qualifier February 24th for National Engineers Week.
The two events are supported by contest entry fees sponsored by Marion Tech and a grant through TRECA from Honda of America to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in the Marion Area College Tech Prep Consortium.
