21st Century Technical Experience/Army Tour

Professional Development Opportunity for High School PLTW Teachers!

Announcing an opportunity for seven Ohio high school PLTW teachers to join 55 other high school PLTW teachers from the Midwest, attend an Army sponsored technology tour, at either, the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center, Redstone Arsenal, Ala or U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Natick, Mass.

Last year the U.S. Army entered into a partnership with Project Lead the Way that was piloted in Ohio. Part of the partnership provides teachers with experiences that will add to their understanding of research and development in high-end technology and to aid in the development of relevant examples that support PLTW’s academic concepts.

Due to the positive feedback received from the teachers who participated in the tours last year we are expanding this opportunity to PLTW teachers throughout the upper Midwest.  Your travel and lodging will be provided; however you will initially pay for your meals but will be reimbursed approximately 3 weeks after your return.  We are allocating seven seats total (4 for Natick & 3 for Redstone) for Ohio, and will fill the seats by a first come first serve basis.

If interested in attending either tour, please complete the application and return to Deb Lukjanovs at deb.lukjanovs@sinclair.edu – you will be notified if selected for one of the tours.

TOUR DATES:
23-26 June   U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Natick, Mass
7-10 July      U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Dev. & Engineering Center, Redstone Arsenal, Ala

U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC)
The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center is located at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. AMRDEC conducts research and exploratory and advanced development and also provides one-stop life cycle engineering support for aviation and missile weapons systems and unmanned aerial and ground vehicle platforms. Numerous Department of Defense and other Federal agencies, as well as academia, corporate, and industrial researchers and developers, seek the Center's science and technology expertise that is characterized by its vast resources of talented and technically proficient personnel. Included, will be a tour of Software Engineering Directorate. The RDECOM's SED is leading the research and application for state-of-the-art software development approaches including automation, domain specific languages, tools, software architectures, reuse, and reengineering technologies

U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC)
Since 1954, the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center located in Natick, Mass., has followed a simple mandate: to ensure that American Soldiers are the best fed, the best protected, and the most highly mobile military in the world. Part of the Army Materiel Command's Research, Development and Engineering Command, NSRDEC's world-class scientists, engineers and equipment designers provide American forces with a wide range of field feeding and life support systems, clothing, precision airdrop systems, and ballistic, chemical, and laser protection systems. NSRDEC has created new fabrics, developed food rations to improve Soldier performance and enhanced Soldier shelters for the maximum protection.
